Howard Steven Friedman was born in New York City in 1972.  His education is
a mix of science, including a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns
Hopkins, and formal art training at both Binghamton University and the School
of Visual Arts in New York.  While his earlier works were in watercolor, mixed
media and abstract sculptures, the artist’s most recent works have been
acrylic on canvas.

His artwork reflects his own experiences of living in these two disparate worlds,
a world grounded in fact and science and an abstract world of colors and
emotions.  His recent acrylic paintings are developed in a series of three or
more paintings focusing on an abstract exploration of the relationship between
color and perception.  His most recent series, Effervescence, channels many of
the images associated with the Troxler effect, a visual phenomena which H.S.
published original scientific research.  Effervescence captures a joy of life
through a explosion of colors across the spectrum while maintaining a
balanced sense of depth.

The name of his website, angelsandstardust.com, is also the title of an art and
poetry book published by the author in 1995.
